Frida Kahlo spreading her flowers into the universe

performance piece by Uta Brauser,

with Jetaime Pizarro and Amber Lee

Frida expressed herself very strongly in her paintings,  although considered surrealist, she painted her own realities.

The flowers to remain in the universe symbolize the female, a delicate soul, hoping for permanence and unperishable presence.

Uta’s live action painting creates a Frida portrait, then a wheelchair Frida adds the flowers to the painting, the “super flower Frida” will spread more petals into the area, room and audience.

performed at the  UP NYC  performance art festival April 21 at Paper Box, Brooklyn.

Sculptures

Sculptures are my main passion in art, I enjoy the physical aspect of bringing a concept, an image, a portrait into the 3dimensional form.

Shaping clay or carving into materials, it all represents a joy of bringing out the shape of an object.

The above sculptures were created with the Spaeth Design team for Barnes & Noble New York in August 2015. They are 3/4 life size and are structured to hold their books on display in their windows and display areas.

Various murals

If truck, van or walls, I enjoy painting in a larger scale. It corresponds to a body movement, a physical expression, fun with larger lines involving the whole body.

Sept 2015, Rivington Wall, Parasol Projects: “selfie cult“, with activations organized by TeamCNTRL,  september: selfie night with music by RhythmLounge, on oct 22: Silent Disco, NYC social  and Bruce Cost Ginger Ale.

In 2015 I organized the Morgan Walls in Bushwick, on Morgan Ave and Harrison Place, next to the L train Morgan exit, for the non profit Arts in Action. The project offered wall space with curated themes for 20 artists for each  theme. On Instagram:  #morganwalls #artsinactionbushwick

April 2015,Females, Morgan Walls: The first series April through July had 20 artists examine women, portrayal or desire of the female image. Also seeking out female muralists and artists.

My mural was a surrealistic portrait of Michelle Obama.

July 26/27 2015 “selfies the new pop art?” Morgan Walls. August through November, brought many expressions or illustrations about the selfie culture to the walls.

I chose Frida Kahlo, the real Queen of selfies, as my contribution to the theme.  This mural is still up, today Nov 3.

The Morgan Walls were rotating art every 4 months, if the wall space remained available.

Durational Interactive Events in Communities

Stemming from the desire to grow a venue, recurring cultural event  in the public space  involving artists and skilled artisans in the community, Uta founded the Artist Market in 2009.

Redesigning the use of public space, building a creative scene, forum for pluralistic and innovative expression, radiate the light of cultural activity into the surrounding community, the CREATIVE GROVE artist & designer market shows the effects of durational activity with art in a community.

The structure of the event combines

  • a music tent for the deejay and live musicians,
  • a small stage for performers or simply an open area for performances,
  • artists and makers with their stalls as a market place,
  • installations,
  • an outdoor seating lounge and
  • food vendors

The essential element of the recurrence is the steady reliable  rhythm throughout the year, similar to the heart beat, bringing oxygen to the cells, in this case to the community.

The Creative Grove artist & designer market was organized by Uta Brauser, Arts in Action with  Laura Dejean, a team of contributing deejays, performers and organizers, volunteers.

The location was at the downtown Jersey City plaza next to the Grove Street PATH station with the closed off portion of Newark Avenue between Christopher Columbus Drive and Grove Street.

The event website is http://www.creativegrove.net,  it took place  weekly on fridays from 3 -9 pm, 2009 – 2013, in 2014 the events had a monthly rhythm, ending  on Sept 19 2014.

Paint the Fridge: Art in Public Spaces

The art fridge offers a canvas in the Urban landscape, to paint the town, paint the visual cityscape for the day, leave unforgettable memories for participants and passersby.

Uta Brauser has been bringing participatory paint projects to the outdoor Artist market CREATIVE GROVE in Jersey Cityfrom 2011 till 2014.

Already in possession of refrigerators for an installation in 2011, a refrigerator presented itself as the perfect item to form a 4 sided, solid standing, windproof “canvas” for anyone to work on simultaneously. A great object for multiple inclusion, for a participatory art project.

The refrigerator is primed white every time again, washable paint made available for the general public to use and indulge.

the Fish with Braids art space  runway.

Uta Brauser, Evolve Wear 4

Mark Tauriello states:  In my fashion designs and photography, I imagine that I’m making works fit for an avant-garde space age massacre. I am greatly influenced by science fiction and horror films such as Forbidden Planet and Suspiria, particularly for their foreboding atmospheres, unsettling color combinations, and stylized sets.
I think sculpturally, exploring the boundaries of space that surround the garment. I often choose solid color fabrics for color blocking and bold contrasts. In my art there is often a disconnection between the subject and the viewer, causing feelings of an intriguing uneasiness.

Uta Brauser: artists play an important role in evolution. We often are in tune with our subconscious with developments that are yet to be manifested.

Future developments after a blade runner esthetic are my vivid imaginations and projections of realities to come. I love to follow scientific predictions and developments.

This event together with an eclectic bazaar of accessories designers,
hot tunes from electronic brit pop decks, hors d’oeuvres and delightable desserts
the Jersey City fashionista can find original pieces  that are not easily available in stores, an unforgettable art fashion celebration
