Durational Interactive Events in Communities

Stemming from the desire to grow a venue, recurring cultural event  in the public space  involving artists and skilled artisans in the community, Uta founded the Artist Market in 2009.

Redesigning the use of public space, building a creative scene, forum for pluralistic and innovative expression, radiate the light of cultural activity into the surrounding community, the CREATIVE GROVE artist & designer market shows the effects of durational activity with art in a community.

The structure of the event combines

  • a music tent for the deejay and live musicians,
  • a small stage for performers or simply an open area for performances,
  • artists and makers with their stalls as a market place,
  • installations,
  • an outdoor seating lounge and
  • food vendors

The essential element of the recurrence is the steady reliable  rhythm throughout the year, similar to the heart beat, bringing oxygen to the cells, in this case to the community.

The Creative Grove artist & designer market was organized by Uta Brauser, Arts in Action with  Laura Dejean, a team of contributing deejays, performers and organizers, volunteers.

The location was at the downtown Jersey City plaza next to the Grove Street PATH station with the closed off portion of Newark Avenue between Christopher Columbus Drive and Grove Street.

The event website is http://www.creativegrove.net,  it took place  weekly on fridays from 3 -9 pm, 2009 – 2013, in 2014 the events had a monthly rhythm, ending  on Sept 19 2014.
