Durational Interactive Events in Communities: Creative Grove Artist Market ’09 – ’14

Stemming from the desire to grow a venue, recurring cultural event  in the public space  involving artists and skilled artisans in the community, Uta founded the Artist Market in 2009 together with Laura.

Redesigning the use of public space, building a creative scene, forum for pluralistic and innovative expression, radiate the light of cultural activity into the surrounding community, the CREATIVE GROVE artist & designer market proved the effects of durational cultural activity in a community.

The structure of the event combined

  • a music tent for the deejay and live musicians,
  • a small stage for performers or simply an open area for performances,
  • artists and makers with their stalls as a market place,
  • installations,
  • an outdoor seating lounge and
  • food vendors

The essential element of recurrence is the steady reliable  rhythm throughout the year, similar to the heart beat, bringing oxygen to the cells, in this case breathing life into the community !

The Creative Grove artist & designer market was organized by Uta Brauser, Arts in Action with  Laura Dejean, a team of contributing deejays, performers and organizers, volunteers.

The location was at the downtown Jersey City plaza next to the Grove Street PATH station with the closed off portion of Newark Avenue between Christopher Columbus Drive and Grove Street.

The event website is http://www.creativegrove.net,  it took place  weekly on fridays from 3 -9 pm, 2009 – 2013. In 2014 the events ran monthly, ending  on Sept 19 2014.

Paint the Fridge: Art in Public Spaces

The art fridge offers a canvas in the Urban landscape, to paint the town, paint the visual cityscape for the day, leave unforgettable memories for participants and passersby.

Uta Brauser has been bringing participatory paint projects to the outdoor Artist market CREATIVE GROVE in Jersey Cityfrom 2011 till 2014.

Already in possession of refrigerators for an installation in 2011, a refrigerator presented itself as the perfect item to form a 4 sided, solid standing, windproof “canvas” for anyone to work on simultaneously. A great object for multiple inclusion, for a participatory art project.

The refrigerator is primed white every time again, washable paint made available for the general public to use and indulge.

Art Basel Miami

At Art Basel events in Miami 2015 there will be several installations in locations still to be announced, showcasing a “Squared” collection with performances, a Frida Kahlo collection combined with the Frida van, a rolling public exhibit.Wild Art Beautiful Life

Wynwood, The Design District and South Beach are on the map of activities.

A live painted mural on Dec 2nd at Blank Canvas Gallery between many international artists is fundraising for the Humane Society Miami.   46 NW 36th St – #3,

Mark Tauriello states:  In my fashion designs and photography, I imagine that I’m making works fit for an avant-garde space age massacre. I am greatly influenced by science fiction and horror films such as Forbidden Planet and Suspiria, particularly for their foreboding atmospheres, unsettling color combinations, and stylized sets.
I think sculpturally, exploring the boundaries of space that surround the garment. I often choose solid color fabrics for color blocking and bold contrasts. In my art there is often a disconnection between the subject and the viewer, causing feelings of an intriguing uneasiness.

Uta Brauser: artists play an important role in evolution. We often are in tune with our subconscious with developments that are yet to be manifested.

Future developments after a blade runner esthetic are my vivid imaginations and projections of realities to come. I love to follow scientific predictions and developments.

This event together with an eclectic bazaar of accessories designers,
hot tunes from electronic brit pop decks, hors d’oeuvres and delightable desserts
the Jersey City fashionista can find original pieces  that are not easily available in stores, an unforgettable art fashion celebration

This collection of storytelling visuals, giving praise to the universal spirit with “In Beauty I walk”,
honoring the gifts of what surrounds us
or the unexpected use of discarded products to extend the material’s life, each creation narrates with a poetic or philosophical approach to fashion for the future.

At the Museum Evolve Wear 3  is manifested  with
– a selection of wearable works in the gallery room
– videos by various presenters in the theater room
– individual performers and artists walking around in their wardrobes
